About Ashley
About Ashley
I am a dedicated scientist and educator currently completing an accelerated degree program at my university, where I am earning both a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Science in Materials Science Engineering. My academic journey is defined by a commitment to excellence and a passion for understanding the physical world at a molecular level.
Scientific Legitimacy & Research
My teaching is grounded in real-world application, not just theory. I currently hold two research positions that inform my tutoring approach:
Laser Laboratory: I work part-time at a world-class facility, gaining professional insight into high-energy physics and materials behavior.
University Researcher: I conduct specialized sol-gel experiments under faculty guidance, which gives me deep expertise in chemical synthesis and advanced laboratory protocols.
Specialized Knowledge
I offer high-level tutoring in subjects that are often seen as "gatekeepers" to STEM degrees. My specific areas of expertise include:
Thermodynamics & Solid State Science
Crystallography & Spectroscopy
Polymer Synthesis & Chemistry

My Teaching Method and Techniques
My approach centers on "The Researcher's Perspective." Having worked on advanced sol-gel experiments and specialized in physical chemistry and spectroscopy, I don't just teach from a textbook; I teach from the lab bench.
First Principles Reasoning: I break down complex topics like thermodynamics or crystallography into their core fundamental laws before moving to calculations.
Visual Analogies: I use real-world materials science examples—such as the molecular structure of polymers or the behavior of light in laser optics—to make abstract concepts tangible.
Active Problem Solving: We work through "bottleneck" problems together, focusing on the logic of the derivation rather than just memorizing formulas.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each 60-minute session is designed to be high-impact and efficient:
The Diagnostic (5 mins): We review a specific "pain point" or homework problem you've struggled with recently.
Conceptual Grounding (15 mins): I explain the underlying chemistry or physics principles using visual aids or research-based examples.
Guided Application (30 mins): We solve a series of increasingly difficult problems, moving from basic application to exam-level complexity.
The "Researcher's Recap" (10 mins): We summarize the "Big Picture" and I provide a quick roadmap for your independent study until our next session.
What Sets Me Apart
I am currently a Master’s student in Materials Science Engineering with a BS in Chemistry, which means I understand the exact academic pressures you are facing. My background at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics allows me to bridge the gap between classroom theory and cutting-edge professional application. I specialize in making high-level topics—like Solid State Science and Polymer Synthesis—accessible and less intimidating.
Who the Lessons Are For
I offer specialized support for students who are serious about mastering the physical sciences:
Undergraduate Students: Specifically those in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering programs tackling Physical Chemistry, Thermodynamics, or Organic Chemistry.
High School Students: AP Chemistry and AP Physics students looking to build a professional-grade foundation for university.
Graduate Peers: Early-stage Master's students needing a refresher on Spectroscopy or Crystallography.
