About Carolyn
I am an avid reader, with an extensive background in philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, phenomenology, logic, and ethics), as well as a specialization in literary criticism with an emphasis on deconstruction.
Having had the pleasure of teaching standardized tests for so many years – – everything from the ACT and SAT to the GMAT, MCAT and LSAT, as well as English as a second language at the University of Oklahoma, the mechanics of style, syntax and grammar are a forte.

I have 20 years experience teaching literature and ESL at two different universities, as well as tutoring privately. I have a specialization in test prep, having been trained by and taught for Kaplan, as well as other companies offering test prep and college application services. I am a published poet, have had my work translated into other languages, and have won a number of writing awards. I recently had the pleasure of attending a writing conference offered by Tupelo Press and am currently working toward my Ph.D.

As Carolyn’s high school teacher for Latin I-III, I collaborated with her during class and in the extracurricular activity Latin Club, the Junior Classical League. The club was for socializing and training for state and national Latin competitions. Carolyn was a stellar competitor, leader, and collaborator even then. Over the years, we have stayed connected.

Carolyn sets a high standard for herself. That standard can be steep for her. For those she mentors or tutors, she is patient and encouraging. She customizes her teaching style for her client’s learning style and differences. If one learning strategy does not work, she researches or draws upon her experience to devise successful strategies.
Her early spirit of independence and adventure led her to pursue different experiences, all enrichment for a writer and educator. Having dealt with challenging life experiences amid the joy, Carolyn demonstrates resilience and wisdom and expresses empathy.
Carolyn strives to learn and master everything she can. She actively fills any gaps in knowledge to be excellent in tutoring in any subject.
Carolyn is fun, witty, and creative in teaching and storytelling. She excels in written and spoken communication, listening, learning, research, focus, engagement, instruction, and goal setting.
Carolyn has demonstrated that she can collaborate with others in her family, throughout her travels and among her friends, former students, and clients. Teaching, mentoring, and tutoring require collaboration between at least two to succeed.
