About Jackie

I have been teaching and learning for a LONG time. I believe in my students and that each is unique and capable.

Actively seeking a positive outlook on learning is a good way to make your journey enjoyable. I always told my children that they will need to work when they are adults, and they may as well do something they like and can eat a livable income.

What are the most important things to remember?

1-HAVE FUN!
2-If learning is scary, it is hard.
3-It’s good to ask for help.
4-Set goals and change them if needed.
5-Everyone has a bad day.
6-A poor grade is not failure, rather a guide to improve performance.
7-Create good study habits and routines!
8-SELF CARE is part of learning.
9-Emotions and environment are part of learning .
10-The list goes on…

About the lesson

I am a Marshall University graduate with Master’s Degree and teach writing, history, test prep, women’s studies, and career planning and socioeconomics.

I took writing intensive courses during my education. I have good communication and people skills, as I am a clinical mental health counselor.

I have extensive experience in telehealth and fostering a learning environment. I work well with all age groups and have taught homeschooling for many years.

A lesson plan may include a rubric, if the course the student is taking has provided a rubric to the student. If the student’s needs are one area or specific problem, there may be goal setting with dates for each area/problem or test, and how the teacher and student agree to resolve the difficulties.
The lesson plan strongly depends on the student’s needs, abilities, goal setting, and collaboration between the teacher and student.

On a “more personal” note, I am a fun teacher and believe “we” must have a good time, enjoy the experience, yet work to be dedicated and focus to accomplish the goals you set.

I encourage my students to identify their strengths, goals, weaknesses and motivations so they are self aware of their needs.

I work with my students to constructively set their goals, and plan accordingly to meet them by using due dates, personal abilities, school resources, study routines, and very importantly…Using a visualization and career planning to give the student skills to plan for projected outcomes such as a 10 or 20 year goal.

If requested, I will modify my approach and always work to best accommodate the student’s needs; however, student participation and dedication to goals is expected.

Education is the goal and key to opening doors to success.
