About Oba
Hi everyone! My name is Oba, and I’m excited to be your chess coach.
By day, I work with Cybersecurity and Web Development—which basically means I spend my time solving puzzles and outsmarting hackers. But my secret weapon for all that tech work? Chess.
I’ve competed in national tournaments in Nigeria, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that chess isn't just about moving wooden pieces—it’s about strategy, patience, and the 'Surprise Attack.'
In this class, I’m not just going to teach you the rules; I’m going to teach you how to coordinate your pieces like a team so you can launch attacks your opponent never sees coming. Whether you're a total beginner or you've played before, we’re going to level up your game. Let’s get started!

A standard lesson usually lasts 45–60 minutes and follows a balanced "theory-to-practice" ratio. Below is a template you can adapt:
Phase 1: Game Analysis (The Review)
Identify Weaknesses: We start by reviewing your recent games (online or over-the-board) to spot recurring tactical or strategic errors.
"Why?" Method: I will ask you to explain your thought process behind specific moves to help you build better decision-making habits.
Phase 2: Core Topic (The Lesson)
Depending on your level, we focus on one of the three stages of the game:
The Opening: Learning the principles of controlling the centre and piece development rather than just memorising lines.
The Middlegame: Diving into tactics (pins, forks, skewers) and positional strategy like pawn structures and weak squares.
The Endgame: Mastering essential techniques like King and Pawn endings to ensure you can "close" a winning game.
Phase 3: Interactive Practice (The Action)
Themed Puzzles: Solving puzzles specifically related to the day's topic to reinforce what you've learned.
Training Games: Playing out key positions against me or a computer to practise specific techniques in a real-game scenario.
Phase 4: Homework & Follow-up
Custom Training Plan: You’ll receive a simple "to-do" list for the week, which might include specific puzzle themes or watching a master game analysis.
Open Q&A: We always wrap up by answering any burning questions you have from your own practice during the week.
