About Delfina

I love not only teaching but also learning languages. As English became easy for me, I learned Italian and nowadays French is my new challenge. I know how difficult it can be and that's why I want to make it easier for others.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

Spanish is my mother tongue, as I am Argentine. I also speak advanced English because I attended a bilingual school, where I met the best teacher of my life. She taught me this second language in a fun way, transmitting her passion and enthusiasm. Since I started university, I knew that I wanted to be that kind of teacher. My degree in education and master's gave me all the tools not only to know a lot but also to teach in the best way possible.
  • 2. Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Mirabel is the main character of the movie Encanto. She is very brave, positive, generous, and reflective. She represents the Colombian culture well, one of the many countries where Spanish is spoken.
  • 3. Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

Spanish culture, with all its differences, is very open. People tend to be chatty, good at welcoming immigrants, extroverted, and friendly. I really like the way we make strangers our true friends in a short period of time. We give all we have to the people we care about.
  • 4. Why does speaking this language matter to you?

As I live in Ireland, speaking my language every day is a way to remember where I come from. Being able to teach it is even better, as it gives me the opportunity to help others while sharing my culture. Speaking Spanish matters a lot to me, not only because it connects me to my roots but also as a tool for life, since it is one of the most spoken languages in the world.
  • 5. What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty my students face is the lack of frequent practice. To solve this, I encourage them to use learning apps and games that can keep them motivated by practicing for just a few minutes each day. As I also teach English, I have my students engage in intercultural exchange conversations where they can practice the language with native speakers in real-life situations.
  • 6. Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

To be very honest, I didn't like English as a second language at all, and my school organized a trip to England to practice it. I was really scared. When I realized that English was more than a subject and that it could help me make friends, I started to feel free to make mistakes and learn while enjoying it. That trip was life-changing.
  • 7. How has travel or a specific trip helped you increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

When I moved to England permanently in 2021, I was already an English teacher, but living there helped me a lot-not only to increase my confidence and vocabulary but also my knowledge of the country's culture. I recommend all my students at least visit a Spanish-speaking country for a holiday.
  • 8. What makes you a Superprof in language?

I am 100% passionate about my job, and my students notice that every day when I greet them. I completed a degree and master's in teaching Spanish as a second language, which makes me capable of explaining the rules of my language in a clear and simple way. I'm happy every time I give a lesson, as I really enjoy it and want my students to enjoy it as well. I love teaching Spanish and believe that Superprof is a great platform to connect students with the best teachers.
