About Liz
Hi, I'm Liz! I recently graduated from a master's degree in physics and environmental studies from the University of Toronto. During my school years, I spent a huge amount of time teaching, mentoring, and leading students (undergraduate and graduate levels). The part of my graduate degree that has stuck with me the most is how much I loved to teach. I was sad leaving grad school that I would lose the opportunity to teach in a university environment, so this fall when classes started up again, I started tutoring students in high school and early undergrad. I really love meeting and getting to know and work with students from all different backgrounds!

Liz has a well-rounded approach to teaching. They learn with the student, and then apply what the student needs to be most successful. For the past 10+ years, Liz has worked as a teaching assistant in the university setting. They have extensive training in several teaching methods which is useful in their tutoring work as no two students learn the same way. With their tutoring work, Liz primarily focuses on working with students to solve practice problems or work through examples and problems they did not understand or previously got wrong. Liz likes to focus on what is generalizable about a problem when they work it, so the student knows how to apply the skills to other problems. Liz also has experience as a student with multiple disabilities, and while not trained specifically in disability management, they have lived experiences of needing accommodations, so they are prepared to help students who need accommodations in the tutoring process. Liz primarily likes to teach 1st year undergraduate physics, high school physics, and high school and early university math (pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus)

For in-person lessons, I will accept lessons that are a reasonable and commutable distance from my home, I will not commute more than 45 minutes total per 1 hour of work, AND are in a public location. I strongly prefer and recommend working in libraries as we would have access to a computer, printer, and relatively quiet, free, and safe public space.
