About Leila

Hello! I'm someone who has always been curious about how things work, and I genuinely enjoy sharing that curiosity with others.

Having spent several years living and studying abroad, I've had the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds, experience new cultures and appreciate how differently people approach learning.

Outside of academics, I enjoy learning languages, practising Taekwondo and figure skating. Being a student myself in these activities has reminded me how important patience, encouragement and a sense of humour can be when learning something new.

I would describe myself as approachable, patient and enthusiastic. I know that asking questions or admitting you don't understand something can sometimes feel intimidating, so I want students to feel comfortable being themselves, making mistakes and asking as many questions as they need.

**Above all, I want students to feel that they have someone genuinely invested in their progress, who celebrates their achievements and encourages them through challenges.**

I look forward to meeting you!

# About My Lessons

I believe that the best way to succeed in learning is to truly understand a subject, rather than simply memorise information. My lessons are designed to make complex concepts clear, engaging and approachable, while helping students develop the confidence to tackle challenging questions independently.

I tailor each lesson to the student's individual needs, learning style and academic goals. Whether you're working towards higher exam grades, navigating university-level material or developing your English language skills, my approach is patient, supportive and focused on meaningful progress.

# My Teaching Approach

My lessons combine:

- **Clear, step-by-step explanations** to break down difficult topics into manageable concepts.
- **Active learning and discussion** to encourage critical thinking, curiosity and deeper understanding.
- **Exam-focused preparation** using past-paper questions, mark schemes and targeted feedback where relevant.
- **Personalised learning strategies** to identify knowledge gaps, strengthen weaker areas and build confidence.
- **Real-world applications** to connect theoretical knowledge with practical examples, particularly in science and research.

# Qualifications and Experience

I hold a **First-Class BSc in Biomedical Sciences from Queen Mary University of London** and a **Master's in Immunology and Genomic Medicine from Kyoto University, Japan**, where I worked in the laboratory of a Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine.

I was also awarded the prestigious **Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship**, giving me firsthand experience of the application process and studying at a leading Japanese research university.

Alongside my academic background, I have previous experience privately tutoring secondary-school students and understand the importance of adapting explanations to different abilities and learning needs.

# Lesson Format

**My aim is not simply to help you achieve your next academic goal, but to equip you with the understanding, confidence and independent learning skills that will benefit you long after our lessons.**
