I am a Master’s student of Applied Linguistics, with an undergraduate background in classical literature and Latin. I believe that the best teaching methodology is able to flexibly adapt to students’ strengths and weaknesses. During the first few classes I typically asses the student's academic level as well as his or her learning style. I teach reading using phonics (the student reads words by sounding them out, rather than the sight-word method). We also work on comprehension, letter formation, and even some rudimentary story composition. Classes are relaxed and comfortable, filled with games and a good dose of imagination. I needed Sarah for reading and math help with my kids. She is great at motivating my kids and teaching them how to think for themselves. She prepares lesson plans that blend clear explanations with fun activities, so they really enjoy her classes (especially the games). :)
