About Paul

Started playing guitar when I was 13. It's been 50 years now! I studied with some good teachers growing up in New York CIty (a very musical place to be) - and learned the fundamentals. I learned theory and scales and how to interpret songs to fit your own style. I love songs too. I have a vast knowledge of pop and rock from the 1950s - 1980s. Rock, pop, ballads, disco, reggae, country, blues, folk hey - you wanna learn some alternate tunings let's do it. I did a whole album of original songs based around Open tunings.

Fingerpicking some folk tunes or country strumming - for sure. I am a rhythm master and I will impart my techniques to you. Ninety percent of being a good guitarist is rhythm. But if you want to learn lead guitar - and not just copying a solo off a record - I can teach you to think, react and play like an original musician.

I also run a music studio called wohl.of.sound where I produce songs for songwriters and singers in all styles. I can teach you how to be a session guitarist too, and you can learn how I create beautiful guitar parts for recordings if thats more your speed. I can also help you with performance skills and how to be a better live performer as a singer/songwriter or band member.

Learning guitar in the beginning is often copying others but at some point you need to write the language not just recite it. I have taught many people with musical aspirations. I also teach songwriting, voice, bass, and music production. So all those wanting to learn to play folk, country, blues, pop and rock - I am here to join you on your musical journey. Lets have fun together.

About the lesson

Hi I am Paul, also known as p.d. wohl. I am originally from New York City but I have been here in Vancouver for many years. I have been playing guitar for almost 50 years. I studied with some good old Italian guitar teachers in Brooklyn NY, as my foundation. I have taught guitar to many students and friends of all ages over the years. I am also a songwriter and music producer at my studio wohl.of.sound. I have worked on hundreds of songs - creating guitar arrangements for many genres. I play and teach acoustic guitar. Everything from mastering strum patterns to unique fingerpicking styles. What do you want to learn? country? blues? pop or rock? Perhaps it's reggae! I got you. My method is all about fun, a little bit of theory and learning to use your body and emotions to convey real music from the heart. Guitar is a very personal instrument. It's like a fingerprint and we all play a little differently and that's a good thing. Let's hang out and jam and learn from each other and I will help you become a better musician and a good guitarist. Beginners and children are welcome as well as more advanced players.
