About Ellie

Hello!
My Background
Master's from the University of Exeter, UK. Six years as an HR Business Partner in the automotive industry—where I was the go-to trainer for my organization, and three years teaching Chinese in-person.
That background shaped how I teach: I quickly diagnose your needs, design targeted content, and refine my approach until you see measurable progress.
Beyond teaching, I'm high-energy and love to laugh. You'll find me on a tennis court, in the gym, or traveling somewhere new—always with a bit of humor. (My students say I smile too much. I take that as a compliment.) That same curiosity and lightheartedness is what I bring to our conversations about China.

About the lesson

I specialize in three types of learners:
For absolute beginners — We'll build you a solid foundation. You'll start speaking faster than you expect, but everything will be grounded and practical.
For those stuck in the middle — You've got the basics, but speaking feels like wading through mud. I'll help you build real flow: organizing what you know, filling the gaps, and pushing from "I kind of get it" to "I can actually use it."
For advanced learners — Let's get you to think and speak like the people around you. You'll pick up the logic, the cultural references, the unspoken rules—so you stop translating in your head and start responding like a local.
My approach? Structured but never rigid. I design every lesson with clear goals and materials—but I'm ready to shift gears the moment you need something different. Grammar happens naturally through real conversation. One focus: getting you where you said you wanted to go.
What You Get
Real-World Business Chinese – Presentations, negotiations, navigating unwritten workplace rules. This is what I actually used in Chinese boardrooms, not textbook theory.
Travel & Cultural Immersion – Navigate everything from landing to local dining, with confidence and real cultural insight.
Daily Survival Chinese – Real-world communication for living in China, far beyond textbook phrases.
HSK Prep – Smart, targeted, efficient.
Who This Is For
I specialize in adult professionals—those moving to China, closing deals, or building long-term capability. But age matters less than mindset: if you're focused, committed, and want real progress, we'll work well together.
