About Shams

Hi! I’m Shams.

I have a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education, and I currently work as a Research Associate with the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine.

Outside of academics and research, I’m a big reader (I’m always looking for my next book!), love staying active, and have played and coached rugby. I’m naturally a very social person and really value getting to know the people I work with, so communication is a big part of who I am.

I try not to take myself too seriously and hope to create a space where students can feel comfortable being themselves, asking questions, and learning at their own pace.

About the lesson

I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals and learning needs, and whenever possible, I like to know ahead of time what they would like to work on so I can come prepared. If they’re unsure, I have my own bank of worksheets and learning materials to draw from. I typically start with a quick rundown of what we’ll cover, explain and work through an example together, then have the student try a few independently while I provide support as needed. Lessons can also focus on homework help, upcoming assignments, or test and exam preparation. With a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education, I tutor students from elementary through university levels, with particular experience in Math, English, and the sciences. My goal is to adapt to how each student learns while gradually building their confidence and independence.

Shams is an amazing tutor, she always goes above and beyond to ensure the material is structured to meet your needs! She has always made it fun to learn, and I was always looking forward to the next session. She has helped improve Mr English skills, which has aided in me getting better grades, and giving me new perspectives for critical thinking. I recommend her to anyone who needs tutoring, she was phenomenal! She will find a way to make it fun and adapt to your learning needs!
Thank you Shams!
