About Xiao

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have many years of Mandarin teaching experience both in China and in the UK to students at all levels and age groups; experience in designing and delivering bespoke learning material (including audio lessons) tailored to individual needs.
I have successfully delivered Mandarin teaching in the following areas:
• Business and business negotiation
• Vocational / exam study
• Casual (incl. Conversational Chinese, Chinese Calligraphy, etc.)

I also have experience in:
• Teaching private Yoga lessons
• Interpreting and sales jobs in the UK
• Music performance for public (Guzheng)
• Working in the tourism industry in China

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Both in China (Yunnan Education University) and in the UK (Ming-Ai London Institute / Middlesex University).

Except for face-to-face lesson students, at present I also have many online students from other countries (including the ones from far East), as well as from other parts of UK where not very practical to travel to . Though my online lessons are one-to-one and tailored for each individual needs, I successfully organised my students to share their course works, which makes their online learning experience as fun and enjoyable as being in a big class and their classmates are from different ages and cultural background.

I am a native Mandarin speaker, have been living in England for over 10 years. I am qualified in Mandarin teaching both in China and in the UK, have many years of experience in teaching Mandarin at all levels, both in China and in the UK.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Mandarin Chinese for students at all levels, Vocational and Casual Chinese for adult learners, Business Chinese at all levels and Business Negotiation in Chinese.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I am qualified HE Level 5 in Teaching Chinese (Mandarin) as a Foreign Language (Ming-Ai London Institute / Middlesex University), Chinese language Education BA in China.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £25 per hour for individual student. Discounts available for group bookings and online teaching.

- Where do you teach?

Leicestershire, parts of Warwickshire and parts of Nottinghamshire. Online teaching globally.

- When are you available?

Weekdays / Weekends / evenings (all times)

I firmly believe that a successful language lesson should be able to engage students in a fun and active study relevant to real life situations, so I use a wide range of teaching methods, materials and activities.
My teaching activities are carefully designed to encourage students' interests and stimulate their creativity.
I tailor my lessons based on every individual's needs, capabilities and personality.
I understand and convey linguistic and cultural nuances, based on my affinity with languages.
