About Anne
My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that music is a powerful form of expression that should be accessible to everyone. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of teaching students of all ages and skill levels, each bringing their own unique perspective and enthusiasm to the learning process. I approach each lesson with the goal of making music both fun and meaningful, tailoring instruction to fit the individual needs and interests of each student. Building a strong technical foundation is important, so we focus on developing skills like proper hand positioning, chord transitions, strumming techniques, and rhythmic timing. However, I believe that technique should always serve the purpose of musical expression, so I ensure that these skills are applied in the context of songs and styles that resonate with the student. I also integrate music theory in a way that is practical and relevant, helping students understand how scales, chords, and rhythm patterns contribute to the music they play. Beyond technical skills, I emphasize the importance of creativity, self-expression, and emotional connection to music. I encourage students to explore different genres, experiment with improvisation, and even try their hand at songwriting, fostering a sense of ownership and joy in their musical journey. My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel supported, inspired, and confident in their ability to make music.

My teaching approach to guitar is centered on helping you turn your inspiration into effective, enjoyable practice by blending technical skill with creative application. We focus first on fundamentals—correct posture, finger positioning, strumming, and chord changes—always applying these to songs that inspire you, whether that’s classic rock, folk, blues, or fingerstyle.
I emphasize understanding how music works, showing how chords connect, how rhythm drives groove, and how these elements fit together to shape songs. I communicate clearly and simply, avoiding jargon, and check in regularly to adjust lessons to your needs and learning style. Whether you learn best through visual aids like chord charts, auditory tools like backing tracks, or hands-on rhythm exercises using loopers, I tailor lessons to suit you. Learning guitar should be about expressing yourself, not getting stuck on technical puzzles.
To motivate you, I share inspiring stories from well-known guitarists and everyday students who have conquered common challenges. Alongside playing, I teach skills such as tone shaping, stage presence, practice strategy, reading chord charts, and improvisation to help you grow as a complete musician. Whether your goals are casual or professional, I’m here to support your musical journey with care and dedication.
