About Lucy
Hi, I'm Lucy! I studied Genetics and Genomics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and today I work in cancer genetics at a major research hospital. I'm also on my way to graduate study in genetic counseling, so learning is very much a two-way street for me too.
I've spent over 8 years tutoring through Mathnasium, and in that time I've come to genuinely enjoy watching a concept "click" for a student. I meet each person where they are — whether you're working to catch up, or looking to get ahead and dig a little deeper. My sessions are hands-on and practice-based, and I always want students to feel comfortable asking questions, even the ones that feel "too basic" to ask. Learning should feel approachable, and a little bit fun.

My teaching method: I focus on the individual student, meeting them where they are. I teach through practice, working problems alongside students, and I also like to challenge students when appropriate.
A typical lesson: We start by reviewing what the student is working on and where they're stuck, then work through practice problems together, with an optional challenge problem at the end and a quick preview of what's next.
What sets me apart: My STEM background and years of tutoring experience mean I bring both subject depth and a well-practiced teaching style. I try to make math and science fun by connecting lessons to each student's own interests.
Who my lessons are for: I work with elementary through high school students in math and science, especially biology and algebra— whether you need extra help catching up or are looking for enrichment to get ahead.
