About Channing

Hi! My name is Channing Jewel Smith! I’m a college student-athlete at Macalester College, where I plan to major in Economics. I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois, and attended Oak Park and River Forest High School. One of my biggest passions is volleyball, and I’ve had an amazing experience so far playing at Macalester! I’m also a huge animal lover, so if you have a pet nearby during our lessons, please make sure to introduce them on camera! I've always loved math, especially algebra, and I enjoy breaking down complicated problems into smaller, more understandable steps. Through my leadership program in high school, I discovered how much I enjoy helping others learn and gain confidence in their abilities. My goal as a tutor is to create a fun, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. I want students to leave each lesson not only understanding the material better but also feeling more confident in themselves!

About the lesson

- 1–2 hour volleyball lessons tailored to whatever skills you want to improve, whether that's passing, hitting, serving, defense, or the mental side of the game!

- Open to athletes of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced players looking to take their game to the next level!

- I offer both in-person and online lessons! For in-person lessons, a gym or suitable practice space must be provided by the athlete.

- My lessons focus on building confidence, strengthening fundamentals, and creating a fun, energetic environment where athletes feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.

- As a current college volleyball player, I understand both the physical and mental challenges of the sport. I want to share what I've learned and help younger athletes become confident, reliable teammates on and off the court!

- Every lesson will include demonstrations, drills, personalized feedback, and encouragement to help athletes see their progress while enjoying the game! Online lessons can also include film review, technique breakdowns, and discussions about the mental side of volleyball.
