About Luke
Hi, I'm Luke, an English teacher based in Camberwell. I've spent over two years teaching in a secondary school that supports students with social, emotional and mental health needs and special educational needs, so I know how to make English feel manageable and hopefully enjoyable!
I love the creative side of English, and I love reading different styles and genres, and sharing that with students. I'm really understanding and calm, and I want students to work at a pace that suits them, while challenging themselves to achieve beyond what they thought possible. I'm encouraging and patient, and understand that mistakes are part of learning and to be expected.
I am really passionate about building confidence in reading and writing, and aim to tailor lessons and resources around you!

I'm a practising English teacher with over two years' experience in an SEMH/SEN secondary school, and I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET). I'm currently working towards QTLS. Day to day I teach students who need more than a standard classroom approach, and I bring that same patience and flexibility to my tutoring. I am a designated teacher at my current school so have experience in safeguarding procedures.
Who the lessons are for:
I teach KS3 and GCSE English, with a particular focus on students aged 11 to 16. My lessons suit students who:
-lack confidence in reading, writing or speaking
-find the pace of a busy classroom difficult
-have SEN, or learn best with extra structure and support
-need help catching up, or want to build skills ahead of exams
My approach:
Every student learns differently, so I plan lessons around the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all programme. I use proven SEN strategies alongside differentiated, scaffolded resources. Tasks are broken into small, achievable steps, with support such as sentence starters, writing frames and modelled examples that are gradually withdrawn as confidence grows. Lessons are calm, structured and encouraging, so students feel safe to try, make mistakes and improve.
Lesson length and format:
Lessons run from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on what suits your child's focus and energy levels. I offer lessons in person in London or online.
