About Lucy

I have taught since 2004, both in Secondary and private colleges in Melbourne, Sydney and Switzerland. I am registered as a state teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (#327283) and have a working with children check in Australia and a CPR certificate current.
I am a committed and conscientious teacher who thrives on being a positive role model and facilitating an inclusive inspiring and enquiry-based learning environment. At all times I strive to act with integrity, to communicate to the highest standard with students, colleagues and the community.
I am proficient in (and continually refining) curriculum planning, lesson planning/ delivery/ reporting, assessment writing and marking, school timetabling/ time management, year level coordinating, parent teacher communication, staff briefings and meeting staff and teaching professional obligations and protocols to fit with Victorian Essential Learning Standards across streams of learning.
In English literature and Sociology classes, I have covered American and British literature classics and poetry, Shakespeare, German literature, theatre productions, and a variety of history subjects (such as world wars, worked with secondary schools in Melbourne (for example The University High) and in Regional Victoria (Kerang Technical High School) and internationally at schools (through agencies ANZUK/ Sanza) in London and Switzerland.
I am proficient in languages; German and English and an enthusiastic promoter of the study of these subject areas.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are English and Literature, ESL and German. I am always delighted to promote the language learning, as I do believe it opens up new avenues for learners to explore. I believe that my enthusiastic, cultural-technological approach to teaching German and English enables students to acquire language skills in a manner that keeps them interested and motivated, and requires their own critical thinking of discussion points which makes their learning their own. The results I have seen in my students are positive.
As a practitioner with years of work experience in various occupations, including journalism (Fairfax Media, ABC Radio, Channel Seven) I bring a wealth of journalistic and media knowledge and experience to the classroom. From this, I usually am able to spark some debate and inset in how the English language can be used professionally.
