I am a novelist and writer who has also taught classes in literature, including drama, poetry, short fiction, and the novel. As a professional writer of 25+ years, and reader of 50+ years, I enjoy what writers do with character, place, action, and process-of-writing, and can help you understand how a story works, and what you can be reading for as you make your way through assigned reading lists.

I base my lessons on deep reading. This includes understanding the story from the characters' understanding of themselves and each other. Setting and voice and action are secondary to what happens inside a character's mind and the words that come from his/her mouth. This is our beginning, and any discussion that follows stems from what the story holds with the characters, and/or how it is something else if just one is not present.
