About Acoya
As the son of a Chess master and teacher, I've been playing chess my entire life. Since I was a kid, I've been moving those pieces across the 64 squares that make up a chess board. As I reached my early teens, I began teaching alongside my father to students of all ages, absorbing both the knowledge and personality that he brought to every lesson.
Now as an adult, I'm so grateful that I've been playing chess for as long as I have. As I've mentioned previously, chess really helps you develop a level of sharpness, patience, and creativity that can be applied to any profession or practice. Even in my daily life, I find myself playing games online whenever I feel stressed and need to relax and slow down a bit.
As a teacher, I'd love the opportunity to imbue any and all students this same kind passion for chess. Through learning terminology, tactics, developing the ability to look several steps ahead, and more, I'll help you get to the top of your game on and off the chess board.

Open to all levels, this is what a typical lesson would look like:
- Beginning with warm-up chess puzzles of variable difficulty
- Next looking at a famous chess game from different time periods, from Garry Kasparaov games in the 90s to modern-day legends like Hikaru Nakamura!
- Time permitting, we'd end with a friendly game between the student and myself, paying close attention to the skills we learned from the game we studied.
Warming up with puzzles is a great way to get the brain working and develop patience on the chess board. Additionally, I find that studying a large variety of games and openings is the best way to learn specific skills in chess, and then applying them immediately after to really lock them in.
As a teacher, I always look to bring enthusiasm and clarity to fully develop the sharp, patient, and brilliant mind of every chess player. Chess aside, soon everyone you know will be impressed by how much you've grown mentally!
