About Roshen

I am a 1st year life sciences student who is currently studying at McMaster University. I’ve always been interested in biology and the sciences. I know the importance of having a good mentor, as they will have an influence on how much you enjoy or dislike learning a certain topic. I love playing sports and I play soccer and tennis. I am a huge swimmer, I lifeguard and was a swim instructor. My goal is to eventually pursue a career in medicine and hopefully It happens (fingers crossed).

I am an extrovert and very encouraging when it comes to teaching. When I was a swim instructor I had to manage a huge range of people from different skill levels, from infants to older individuals. This experience made me realize that encouragement is the best tool to make someone learn better. People will improve regardless of the skill level they have, as long as they are given constant encouragement. I hope to give encouragement to all of you and help you strive for growth :)

About the lesson

I believe in science based and research proven learning methods such as active recall and spaced repetition. To become skilled in any task, It takes a proper planned approach.

- In order to retain the most amount of information, practice questions will be given near the end of every lesson.
- Practice questions/test taking can be utilized as a learning tool rather than just a form of evaluation alone

The degree of practice will be adjusted to target the individual’s strengths and weaknesses, this offers learning that is geared towards personal improvement.

An example lesson plan could be a 45 minute lesson (course material) followed up with 15 minutes of practice (multiple choice questions and/or short answers).

*The lesson duration itself can be tweaked for the learner to meet any needs*

Above all, I am extremely enthusiastic and encouraging. I know learners all have different starting points and different interests. My goal is to make sure the student has a great time learning so they too can share the same fun I have when learning biology.

I’ve had many great teachers who made me love learning, and I have been very grateful for that. If I had a bad teacher who didn’t put effort into teaching, then I know I wouldn’t have the same passion for learning.

I want to be a good teacher who helps rekindle the interest of learners, to put effort into their progress and to make sure they enjoy learning :)
