I believe students learn best when they understand the "why" behind a concept, not just the "what." After more than 25 years in the classroom, I use a simple, structured approach:
Start with what you already know. I begin each session by finding out where you are, so we build on your current understanding instead of repeating what you've mastered.
Connect lessons to real life. Science and research make more sense when tied to everyday examples, such as weather events, local geology, and community issues.
Explain, model, then practice. I demonstrate how to solve a problem or write a paragraph, we work through one together, and then you try one on your own.
Break big tasks into steps. Research papers and academic essays feel less overwhelming when they are split into manageable parts.
Give clear, constructive feedback. I point out what you did well, what to fix, and how to fix it.
