About Katelyn

Hi! I'm a licensed elementary teacher with nine years of classroom teaching experience. Throughout my career, I've worked with students of varying abilities, including those needing additional academic support, students with learning differences, and advanced learners looking for enrichment opportunities.

My teaching background includes elementary education, reading intervention, special education, and gifted education. I hold teaching licenses in both Indiana and Arizona, and I have extensive experience helping students develop their reading, writing, and language skills.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is helping students find their voice as writers. I love watching a student take a simple idea and turn it into a creative story, thoughtful paragraph, or well-organized essay. It's especially rewarding to see students who once struggled with writing begin to approach assignments with confidence.

I understand that writing involves many different skills, from spelling and grammar to organizing thoughts and communicating ideas clearly. My approach is patient, encouraging, and focused on breaking these skills into manageable steps so students can experience success.

I believe learning should be engaging and meaningful. I take the time to understand each student's strengths, challenges, and interests so I can create lessons that help them grow.

Above all, I want students to feel proud of their writing and confident in their ability to communicate their ideas!

I believe every student can become a confident, capable writer with the right instruction, encouragement, and opportunities to practice. My goal is to help students strengthen their English language skills while learning to express their ideas clearly, creatively, and effectively.

With nine years of classroom teaching experience, I understand that writing can be challenging for many students. Some have wonderful ideas but struggle to organize them on paper, while others need additional support with grammar, spelling, sentence structure, or developing detailed written responses. I tailor each lesson to meet students where they are and build on their individual strengths.

What to Expect During Lessons:
Each session is personalized to the student's needs and academic goals. Depending on the student, lessons may include:

- Creative writing, storytelling, and developing original ideas
- Paragraph and essay writing, including organization and structure
- Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence construction
- Editing, revising, and strengthening written work
- Reading comprehension and written responses using text evidence
- Test preparation, including writing prompts, language conventions, and reading comprehension questions

My lessons typically begin with a brief review of previously learned skills, followed by focused instruction and guided practice. Students then have opportunities to apply what they've learned through meaningful writing activities.

I emphasize teaching students how to improve their own writing rather than simply correcting their mistakes for them. Through modeling, discussion, and constructive feedback, I help students develop the skills and confidence to become more independent writers.

Who I Work With:
I offer online English and writing tutoring for elementary and middle school students, particularly grades 2–8. Whether your child needs help strengthening foundational language skills, improving school assignments, preparing for an upcoming test, or exploring creative writing, I provide individualized instruction based on their needs.

My goal is to make writing feel less overwhelming and help students discover that they have ideas worth sharing!
