About Brian
I’m Brian, an Arizona-licensed teacher with experience teaching English and humanities in international settings. My teaching includes English language and literature, world literature, and secondary English teaching at international schools.
I hold a PhD in History from the University of Michigan and have taught university humanities courses. Careful reading, thoughtful discussion, and clear writing are central to my approach, and I welcome students’ questions and individual perspectives.

Does a reading assignment feel difficult to unpack, or do you have ideas but struggle to turn them into an essay? I help students understand what they read and express their thinking clearly.
We can work on comprehension, close analysis, essay planning, paragraph structure, and revision. For literature, we explore how language, character, setting, and context shape a text, then practice supporting interpretations with evidence.
Bring your current assignment or reading, and we will build the lesson around your needs. My aim is to help you develop skills you can use independently in future classes.
I can work with you to make sure you excel on your American or British tests and exams, including SAT, AP, GCSE and A Level.
