I have been tutoring math at all levels ranging from kindergarten through differential equations for 15 years and have been a certified grade 7-12 math teacher since 2015. While working as a math teacher I've taught every class offered at those grades for at least one year, ranging all the way from the general 7th and 8th grade math to AP Calculus. I have a BA in Mathematics, a BS in Ecology/Evolutionary Biology, and an MS in Teaching/Teacher Education. While in college I worked at my University's learning center and tutored freshman biology, chemistry, physics, and math from college algebra all the way up to differential equations.
I am also a former Division 1 athlete and a current Marine reservist, thus I always have a great time working with current student athletes and military families. As a reservist I have full base access to provide in person tutoring, having tutored a base general's daughter in the past.
My students generally describe me as smart, patient, and easy to understand. I believe that learning math is equivalent to learning a new language, so I approach teaching by starting with the fundamentals and working up to full independence and fluency with the content at hand. I specialize in working myself out of a job and am just as effective with homework help as I am with re-teaching an entire lesson/lecture.
My rate is $60 per hour for virtual tutoring and $80-$100 per hour for in person tutoring, travel distance/difficulty dependent. The first session working with me, whether virtual or in-person is always a trial period as my way to fight back against what I view as the most fatal flaw of the service industry. I maintain a low student volume to increase flexibility for both myself and my students but currently have availability for 2 students. I look forward to working with you or your child soon.
