About Kristy

I support middle and high school students in English by combining strong content knowledge with a special education–informed approach that meets students exactly where they are. With over 15 years of experience teaching secondary English, both as a collaborative special education teacher and as teacher of record. I specialize in helping students who can succeed but need the right structure to get there.

I break down reading, writing, and test-taking skills into clear, manageable steps so students never feel overwhelmed. Whether we’re working on comprehension, essays, grammar, or standardized test preparation, I focus on how to approach tasks not just the final answer. Students learn strategies they can reuse independently.

My sessions are highly personalized. I:
Scaffold complex texts and assignments
Teach concrete strategies for annotation, organization, and essay planning
Support executive-function skills like time management and task initiation
Reinforce confidence and academic independence

Because of my background in special education, I’m especially effective with students who have IEPs, 504 plans, ADHD, learning disabilities, or anxiety around English. I understand accommodations and know how to turn them into practical, real-world strategies not shortcuts.

Most importantly, I create a supportive, judgment-free environment where students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence. My goal isn’t just better grades. It’s helping students believe they can do English and giving them tools that last beyond tutoring.
