About Antonina
I am a Chicago Public School Second Grade teacher looking to tutor during summer break. As of 2018 I have earned a B. A in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading from the University of Iowa. I have been teaching in the Chicago Public School district for two year previously having taught first grade. I am a certified Reading Teacher (K-12) and a Wilson Certified Instructor which is the language acquisition program used in Chicago Public Schools for the word study component of the balanced literacy program. In 2021, I was honored by the Chicago Department of Literacy as a Teacher Leader in Early Literacy. Post graduation, I gained experience as a Special Education Substitute teacher in the northwest suburbs of Palatine School District 15. As part of my Reading Endorsement I have completed my Dyslexia Support certification in 2018. I seek to engage students in critical thinking and help them develop an intrinsic love for learning!

As a second grade teacher I now how to engage students in developing essential literacy skills such as phonemic awareness, segmenting and comprehension. As a certified Wilsons Fundation instructor, I engage students in whole body during instruction and apply researched based instructional strategies. Lessons will contain components of word study, fluency practice and comprehension development through meaningful engagement with text. I have experience working with students who have reading impairments, dyslexia and ELL learners.
