About Mark

I’m a licensed architect (ARB/RIBA) and university lecturer with over 15 years of experience in practice and architectural education. I studied at the Architectural Association (AA) in London, where I developed a strong interest in adaptive reuse and the social role of architecture — themes that continue to shape my teaching and design work today. I currently teach at a UK University, leading a postgraduate studio focused on retrofit, reuse, and contextual design. Alongside this, I run my own architectural practice, working on a range of residential and heritage projects. Over the years I’ve supported many students and graduates in refining their portfolios, preparing for university applications, and developing clear design narratives. My approach is conversational and constructive — helping you think critically about your work while strengthening your ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally. Whether you’re applying to architecture school, preparing for crits, or editing a professional portfolio, I’ll help you build clarity, confidence, and a strong personal voice in your work.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to the individual. We begin by discussing your goals — whether that’s preparing a university application, developing a project for review, or improving your portfolio presentation. Each session typically includes: A focused critique or review of your current work Guidance on concept development and visual storytelling Practical advice on layout, sequencing, and portfolio editing Tips on presenting and speaking about your work with confidence Depending on your needs, we can also cover: University or job application strategy Building a coherent design portfolio for practice or academia Refining your technical drawings, diagrams, or narrative flow I teach using a constructive, conversational approach — similar to a design studio tutorial — encouraging you to think critically about your work while strengthening your presentation skills. Lessons can take place online (via Zoom) or in-person if you’re based near Stafford, Birmingham, or London by arrangement.
