MPhil in Plant Sciences / Botany – University of Reading
25 Years University Research Experience – including most recently Cambridge Departments of Pathology, Medicine, and Physiology, Development & Neuroscience (PDN).
Currently focussing on AQA syllabus.
Having recently transitioned from managing research laboratories to academic tutoring, I offer students a blend of subject experience and structured guidance. I’m friendly, patient, and want to help students understand biology clearly.
I offer a free initial consultation/introductory meeting to discuss current grades, target goals, and specific areas for improvement.

A-Level Biology requires more than just memorising facts—to achieve higher grades, students must understand practical design, experimental analysis, and the exact language of the mark scheme. Having spent 25 years working as a research assistant and laboratory manager in top-tier university departments (including 18 years across Pathology, Medicine, and PDN at the University of Cambridge), I don't just teach biology from a textbook—I’ve spent my career with these experimental techniques.
How I help my students:
AQA Required Practicals & Paper 3: I use my lab experience to make practical questions (variables, controls, error analysis, graphs) intuitive and easy to score high marks on.
Mark-Scheme Mastery: Students will learn exact keywords and structures examiners look for in 4–6 mark questions and the 25-mark essay.
Maths Confidence: Clear, step-by-step guidance on statistical tests (Chi-squared, Student's t-test, correlation coefficient) and mathematical skills required by AQA.
Confidence Building: I offer a supportive, patient environment where students feel safe asking questions, breaking down complex topics into clear, manageable steps.
