About Abubakar

How many years have you been working as a tutor?

Since 2018, I have been tutoring individual students as well as study groups of up to 5 students at the Enlighten Academy. I have experience teaching disabled and autistic children and I have also taught primary school students. I am able to teach up to AS and GCSE standard, helping my students achieve outstanding grades in Computer Science, Maths and Physics.

What other subjects do you teach?

As I have mentioned above, I tutor Computer Science, Physics and Maths. If you would like additional tutoring in these subjects, please do not hesitate to ask.

Are you DBS certified?

My DBS certificate will be provided upon request.

What are some examples of programs you have made?

Using visual basic, I have created programs with real life applications, from urban traffic coordination systems to a predictive greenfly population model that supports research scientists. After attending a presentation by the Bletchley Park Trust, I was inspired to create a replica of the Enigma machine in Python using OOP and I have also used Python to program solutions for mathematical problems on Project Euler.

What languages can you program in?

I am fluent in Python and PostgreSQL. I also have experience programming applications in Visual Basic and I have created websites using HTML, CSS and JavaScript with brief exposure to JQuery and JSON.

About the lesson

I believe that the best way to learn is through application and I enjoy working with students who are passionate about the subjects they are learning. My approach is to use layered learning where we will initially learn the concept, apply it with a few summary questions and finally evaluate our understanding by completing exam questions.

I have found that this approach is extremely useful at pinpointing key areas which students may not thoroughly understand and the wide variety of exam questions also contributes in assessing whether the student has truly understood the underlying concepts as the phraseology will confuse students who don't have a stronger grasp of the topic.

It was great working with Daniel who is currently reading an engineering degree. Implementing solutions based on the principles of OOP and understanding how this relates to the representation and modelling of geospatial data will definitely prepare him for a successful career as a geospatial scientist, GIS professional or academic researcher.

Perfect! My son is going to study mechanical engineering at University in September and has never studied computer science, so he wanted to get some good foundations in CS over the summer. Abubakar is an outstanding tutor. Not only does he have deep knowledge, he is also very enthusiastic about the subject. Abubakar is extremely professional. He goes at the pace that is comfortable for her while making everything interesting, fun and interactive - comparing what she is taught to the modern world in technology. We would thoroughly recommend Abu as he goes above and beyond - making sure you have the best working experience (e.g. making a digital classroom so all the best resources and software are available). His lessons are interesting as they are not just learning out of a textbook, which can sometimes become quite boring. Instead, they are fun and fascinating lessons, learning all the required information and more.
My daughter's highlight of the week is her Thursday sessions as she can't wait to discover what she is going to learn. We highly recommend this fabulous tutor.
