About Markas

Experience: I have over ten years of experience teaching piano and music theory to a diverse range of age groups, from six-year-old children to adults. At Trinity Laban Conservatoire, I studied Composition, gaining extensive experience in writing for solo instrumentalists, chamber groups, and orchestras, using traditional pen and manuscript techniques as well as notation software such as Sibelius. My compositions have been performed at prestigious venues, including Blackheath Halls and the Old Royal Naval College. Additionally, I have performed electronic solo gigs with my setup, utilising keyboard and tape-loops for live performances. During my studies, I used modern music production techniques, working with DAWs such as Reason, Logic, and Ableton Live (which I currently primarily use). I also have experience composing and producing music for film/video, as well as creating my own video and music projects using lo-fi equipment for creating ambient soundscapes and experimental music. If you're interested, I can also teach basic modular synthesis using VCV Rack, which is free. I have a year of experience working at Morley Radio, where I scripted, recorded, and edited ads and podcasts, using Adobe Audition to clean up audio of static background sounds and editing out filler words to enhance the listening experience. About me: I have been passionate about music from a young age, starting with learning the accordion and piano, which I still play to this day. In addition to trying out new instruments such as guitar and bass, I recorded music on my computer as a teenager, which led me to develop a serious practice and pursue music as a career. As a general learner, I have had a range of piano tutors following the ABRSM curriculum, and I am self-taught in using all the software I currently use. Aside from music, I enjoy reading and practising ancient philosophy, bouldering, and cycling.

My teaching method is holistic, catering to the unique needs and interests of each individual student. I offer lessons for those interested in learning how to arrange, create, and develop music using software or traditional pen and paper methods. I also provide feedback on their work, suggesting ways to improve their music production techniques. Lessons can be conducted in person at my studio space, at your home, or remotely over Zoom. I believe that in-person teaching provides the best learning experience, as learning music is both a physical and mental endeavour. In addition to the practical aspects of music production, I can also teach music theory, including harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic ideas, which can help drive the music for further development. I can also explore conceptual realms such as musique concrète or general experimental music. Lesson duration can vary from 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the student's needs. If you would like to hear examples of my work or have any specific questions, please send me a message, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
