About Gabby
I specialize in music theory, music composition, songwriting, and solo vocal performance. Started playing piano when I was five years old, and have since learned piano, guitar, and voice (and am always still learning more!). In college, I've been involved in a cappella (touring with the Yale Whiffenpoofs next year), musical theater, and songwriting collectives. My debut single is set for release in August 2023, and I'm hoping to finish an EP before graduating from Yale, as well as write a song cycle for my undergraduate thesis. All of this to say, I'm super passionate about music and sharing the joy of music to others! Feel free to message me anytime with any questions! :)

Songwriting is a deeply personal and subjective artform. In my writing over the past decade, it's meant using lyrics and melody to tell reflective stories that maintain specificity while allowing for listeners of different walks of life to connect with my work. I want to give you the tools to discover what songwriting means to you and what matters for you as a songwriter. My teaching philosophy prioritizes a firm understanding of music theory and different songwriting patterns used across various genres and eras of music. I strive to give budding artists the tools they need to write the music they want to hear. Typical lessons include lyric writing exercises, analyzing existing songs for techniques to use in one's own writing, and collaboratively working on full-length songs; throughout this process, the student/artist is driving the conversation around their own work. Lessons best suited for songwriters with little to no experience who are looking to get started or sharpen their skills.
I also offer solo vocal performance instruction, which unlike voice lessons, is all about applying and developing the skills a performer already has to elevate one's performance. In these lessons, a student provides a piece they already know the lyrics and melody to, and we work together to find meaning in the song, translate that into performance goals, and create a "roadmap" for the vocal performance. I teach students stage presence, melody modification, performance technique, vocal embellishment, limited vocal technique, how to derive meaning from songs, and how to develop one's own vocal style. Vocal performance is also deeply personal and subjective; therefore, I am here to give students the tools to make vocally sustainable choices that engage audiences and resonate with their own artistry. The student/artist is driving the conversation around their own work. Students are expected to enter these lessons with lyrics and melody memorized, as well as sheet music for the song emailed to me 48 hours in advance. No prior voice training is required. Prior singing experience is recommended.

Gabby is one of the kindest people I know, and their patience and positivity make them a wonderful teacher. They are also hilarious and always make me laugh. Rest assured, any lesson with Gabby would be a wonderful time.
Gabby has helped me grow as a songwriter and musician in a variety of ways. I’ve come to them several times with songs that were nothing more than rough lyrics and a tune that existed only in my mind. Not only were they able to entirely compose it these songs, but offer suggestions on the piece overall that helped improve my work. They are beyond capable of writing across genres, from pop to musical theater and beyond, but they are a talented musician in their own right. They are an incredible vocalist, pianist, and guitarist, and one of the best sight readers I know. They also have perfect pitch, which is incredibly helpful. Aside from all of this, they are a kind and patient person who I have loved working with, and can’t wait to work with more!
Gabby is just a phenomenal teacher. They really know just how to get my creativity to shine through songwriting and I couldn't be prouder of the work I've accomplished with their help!
I am in an A Cappella group with Gabby at Yale University and they are both wonderful at solo coaching and also very helpful in understanding how to sing as a group! Gabby will always meet you where you are and share from his vast variety of musical knowledge in a way that is affirming & fun. Highly recommend!
