About Estuardo De Jesus

I teach from the belief that clear hearing unlocks clear playing. In a lesson I listen as intently as I watch your hands. If one explanation does not land, I change the path: a sung model, a silent bow, a side-by-side comparison of two motions, or a simpler version of the same musical idea. You leave knowing what to listen for at home, not only what to repeat.

I keep the studio calm and curious. Mistakes are useful comparisons, not verdicts. When something collapses, I am more interested in which take sounded closer to the goal than in a lecture about practice time. That stance fits a child discovering first sounds and an advanced player refining a stubborn phrase. Age and level change the pieces and the pace; the habit of ear-led problem-solving stays the same.

Independence matters to me. I want you able to hear a problem, design a small listening experiment, and bring sharper questions next time. Lessons feel collaborative: we listen together, we try two options, we keep the one that works, and we put it back into music you care about.

Time with me usually feels focused and musical rather than mechanical. Expect patient re-framing when stuck, lots of short comparisons, and a steady return from technical detail into playing that sounds intentional.

In my violin lessons we start with the ear more often than with the page. Before you chase a hard shift or a scratchy bow change, I play or sing the sound we want, you echo it, and we compare the two takes until you can hear the gap yourself. Beginners use this on open strings and simple finger patterns; more experienced players use it on double stops, string crossings, or a phrase that never quite rings true. The same habit scales: listen, match, then refine the motion that made the match possible.

When a passage falls apart at tempo, I rarely ask you to grind the whole line again. We isolate the sound of the problem—the note that goes sharp, the bow that skids—then try two small physical options side by side so you can feel which one produces the cleaner result. One day that might mean comparing a slower bow with a lighter contact point; another day it means rehearsing only the arrival of a shift before the note that follows. Children get short listening games and clear “same or different” checks; teens and adults get finer language about tone color, intonation, and phrasing.

Rhythm and pitch are sometimes separated so listening stays honest. You might bow an open-string rhythm while I clap the pulse, or finger a line silently while humming the pitch contour, then put both back together at a tempo where your ear can still lead. Musical landmarks—a resting harmony, a memorable interval, the shape of a phrase—help you navigate without memorizing blindly. Technical work has to show up in real music in the same lesson whenever we can manage it.

Between lessons you practice like a careful listener: record a short take, name what you hear, pick one variable to change, and try again. Over time you stop guessing and start choosing sounds on purpose—whether you are finding first fingers or polishing advanced repertoire.
