• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  Spanish is my native language. I was born and raised in Venezuela, so Spanish has always been an important part of my life, my family, and my culture. Later, when I started teaching Spanish, I discovered how much I enjoy helping other people understand not only the language, but also the culture and the natural way Spanish is spoken in everyday life.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  I would choose Gabriel García Márquez. Although he was Colombian, his work represents the richness and diversity of the Spanish language and Latin American culture. His stories show how powerful Spanish can be for expressing emotions, traditions, family relationships, and the unique character of Latin America.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  One thing I really love about Spanish is how warm and expressive it can be. We have many ways to show affection and closeness through words. I especially like the phrase “Mi casa es tu casa” because it represents hospitality and the importance of making people feel welcome, something that is very common in Latin American culture.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Spanish is much more than a language to me. It connects me to my family, my culture, and my roots. Now that I teach Spanish, it also gives me the opportunity to share that part of myself with other people. I love seeing a student go from being afraid to speak to having a real conversation in Spanish with confidence.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  One of the biggest challenges for Spanish students is understanding how verbs change depending on the person and the tense. There are also differences between knowing grammar and actually feeling comfortable speaking.
  
  I believe the best way to improve is to combine grammar with real conversation and regular practice. In my lessons, I explain grammar step by step and then help students use it in practical situations. Making mistakes is part of learning, so I try to create a comfortable environment where students are not afraid to speak.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  Teaching Spanish has made me look at my own language in a completely different way. As a native speaker, many things feel natural and we often use them without thinking about the grammar behind them. When I started teaching, my students' questions encouraged me to analyze why we say things in certain ways.
  
  That experience has made me appreciate Spanish even more and has also made me a better teacher. I have learned that being a native speaker is valuable, but being able to explain the language clearly and patiently is just as important.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Traveling has been one of the most enriching ways for me to discover the incredible diversity of the Spanish language. Even within my home country, Venezuela, I have traveled to different regions and experienced how much accents, expressions, vocabulary, and even the speed of speaking can change from one place to another. Some accents can be dramatically different, even though we are all speaking the same language.
  
  I have also had the opportunity to visit Spain several times and travel through different parts of the country. It has been fascinating to experience the variations in accents, vocabulary, expressions, and ways of communicating while still sharing the same Spanish language.
  
  Another very important experience was living in Chile for five years. Although Chile and Venezuela are both in South America, Chilean Spanish can sound completely different. While traveling from the north to the south of Chile, I discovered even more regional differences in dialects, idioms, pronunciation, vocabulary, and ways of speaking.
  
  But traveling is not the only way I have experienced the diversity of Spanish. I am fortunate to have friends from many different parts of the world, especially from Spanish-speaking countries. I have friends from Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, and Spain. Talking and spending time with them has allowed me to continuously learn about different cultures, expressions, accents, traditions, and ways of seeing the world.
  
  I also really enjoy spending some of my vacations in Florida, especially Miami. One of the things I love about being there is the incredible presence and diversity of Spanish speakers from so many different countries. Whenever I have the opportunity, I enjoy talking with people, exchanging ideas, listening to their stories, and learning about their lives and experiences. I have found that people are often happy to share their culture and their stories when someone is genuinely interested in listening. Those conversations can be incredibly enriching.
  
  All of these experiences have taught me something that I love sharing with my students: there isn't just one way to speak Spanish. The Spanish-speaking world is incredibly diverse. Sometimes we find major differences between neighboring countries, while at other times we discover surprising similarities between people living on completely different continents.
  
  I love traveling, and I especially enjoy visiting Spanish-speaking places because every experience teaches me something new about my own language. It has expanded my vocabulary, introduced me to new expressions and accents, and given me a deeper appreciation for the cultures behind the language.
  
  This is also something I bring into my lessons. I don't want my students to learn Spanish only as a subject from a textbook. I want them to understand Spanish as a living language, spoken by millions of people with different accents, cultures, stories, and ways of expressing themselves. For me, that diversity is one of the most beautiful things about learning and teaching Spanish.

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  I believe what makes me a Superprof is not simply being a native Spanish speaker, but my passion for helping others understand, enjoy, and feel confident using the language.
  
  Every student is different. I teach children, teenagers, and adults, and I have learned that there is no single method that works for everyone. Some students want to become more confident in conversation, others need help understanding grammar, improving pronunciation, succeeding at school, preparing for travel, communicating with family or friends, or simply learning Spanish because they love the language. My goal is to understand what each student needs and adapt my lessons to their age, personality, level, interests, and goals.
  
  Patience is also a very important part of the way I teach. Learning another language can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when it is time to actually speak. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, trying new things, and making mistakes without feeling embarrassed. Mistakes are not failures—they are part of learning.
  
  As a native Spanish speaker with experience interacting with people from many different Spanish-speaking cultures, I can also help my students understand that Spanish goes beyond grammar rules and vocabulary lists. It is a living language full of different accents, expressions, traditions, and ways of communicating. I enjoy bringing some of that real-world Spanish into my lessons while still giving students the grammatical foundation they need.
  
  I also genuinely enjoy preparing my classes. I like finding examples, activities, conversations, and explanations that make difficult concepts easier to understand. One of the most rewarding moments for me is when something that seemed confusing to a student suddenly makes sense, or when a student who was once afraid to speak begins having a conversation with confidence.
  
  For me, being a Superprof means more than teaching Spanish. It means listening to my students, understanding their goals, encouraging them through the learning process, and helping them discover that they are capable of communicating in another language.
  
  If my students finish a lesson knowing a little more Spanish, feeling a little more confident, and excited to continue learning, then I feel that I have done my job.
