About Icye

I’m a professionally trained educator from UCL’s Institute of Education (IOE), ranked #1 in the world for Education for 13 consecutive years, with 10 years of experience teaching spoken Mandarin.

I specialise in speaking, listening and pronunciation, with lessons built around natural conversation in a relaxed and engaging environment. I teach Mandarin that is not only accurate, but natural, current and culturally relevant, with every lesson tailored to your level, needs and interests.

My educational background combines schooling in China with international higher education, giving me both a strong understanding of Chinese language and culture and a global, multicultural perspective.

Having travelled to 35 countries, I’ve had the opportunity to experience a wide range of cultures and connect with people from many different backgrounds. I value openness, curiosity and mutual respect, and I aim to create a space where everyone feels comfortable speaking, making mistakes and learning.

I’m passionate, supportive and easy-going — so expect professional teaching without the stiff classroom atmosphere. Learning Mandarin with me is productive, relaxed and, most importantly, fun.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on listening, speaking and pronunciation, with an emphasis on natural, real-life conversation. Think of it as learning Mandarin through chatting with a friend — but with someone who can actually explain why things are said the way they are.

Lessons are relaxed, interactive and tailored to your level, interests and goals. We can talk about anything you’re interested in, while I help you sound more natural, confident and fluent.

As a native Chinese speaker with exposure to language and culture from both Northern and Southern China, I can help you with standard spoken Mandarin while also introducing regional expressions, pronunciation differences and the little nuances textbooks often miss.

You’ll also learn the Chinese people actually use today — slang, buzzwords, internet language, memes and cultural references — so you can understand not just the language, but what people are really talking about.

I can also show you how to use AI tools such as DeepSeek and ChatGPT effectively in Chinese, including how to phrase prompts and questions naturally, so you can build strong self-learning skills outside our lessons.

All levels are welcome. My classes are especially useful if you want to improve your conversational Mandarin alongside more traditional reading and writing study.

Most importantly, I’m passionate, curious and easy to talk to. Expect a chill, respectful environment, interesting conversations and good vibes — with plenty of Mandarin along the way.
