About Mara
Why I Teach Languages I want to become a language teacher because I genuinely enjoy learning languages myself. I know that for some people, learning English can feel a bit overwhelming or difficult—and I want to help change that. My goal is to offer a laid-back, friendly learning experience that still gets great results, without the pressure of intense study routines. By focusing on natural conversation, fun activities, and real-life language use, I aim to make learning feel enjoyable and effective. Whether you’re shy, curious, or just want to improve at your own pace, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

My teaching style is dynamic, fun, and student-focused. I use a daily practice method, where we engage in improvised conversations to build real-life speaking and listening skills. This helps you feel more confident using the language in everyday situations. But that’s not all! Our lessons also include:
• Reading and writing practice
• Fun language games
• My personal language learning tips and strategies to help you stay motivated and learn effectively
I can help you with everyday phrases, grammar, pronunciation, and more. I speak English and Spanish, and I’m currently learning German, so I understand the process of learning a new language and how to make it enjoyable.

Hello, my name is Ikumi. I’m from Japan and on a working holiday in New Zealand. Mara is my flatmate. She helps me with English, like everyday phrases, pronunciation, and the difference between words.
She is very kind and helpful. I feel comfortable asking her questions. She explains slowly and easy to understand. I enjoy learning with her and I think she is a good teacher!View more recommendations
