About Jacob
Hi! I’m Jacob, a wildlife ecologist with a passion for learning, teaching, and the outdoors. I have a degree in Physical Geography and an MSc in Ecological Restoration, and I’ve spent the past several years working in conservation and with First Nations.
I love helping students understand challenging concepts by making them practical, relatable, and easier to break down. Whether you’re struggling with a specific topic, preparing for an exam, or looking to build your confidence in a subject, I’ll work with you to find an approach that works for you.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me hiking, exploring the mountains, or reading. I’m excited to help make learning a little less intimidating and hopefully a lot more interesting!

My approach is student-centred, practical, and focused on building confidence. I break complex concepts into manageable pieces, use real-world examples and visuals, and encourage students to work through problems rather than simply providing answers.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the student’s goals and reviewing areas of difficulty, followed by concept instruction, guided practice, and discussion. I finish by reviewing key takeaways and identifying areas for further practice.
What sets me apart is my combination of academic training and hands-on professional experience in ecology, conservation, GIS, and environmental science. I bring real-world examples into lessons to help students understand how concepts are applied beyond the classroom.
I primarily tutor undergraduate students in geography, biology, ecology, environmental science, conservation, GIS, R/data analysis, field methods, and research design, from introductory to advanced levels.
