About Praveen

I have been working in the community development area for the past 9 years with significant experience working with different target groups including people with disability, CALD communities and other programs in the community. I have had the opportunity through my roles at Parramatta Young Christian Workers (campaign worker and manager), Christian Community Aid (Settlement service worker), Werrington community projects (manager) and Annowah (care worker) to familiarise myself with the community sector. I have significant experience in developing and running services, performing casework, developing partnership programs, managing budgets and initiating advocacy campaigns for disadvantaged community members including newly arrived migrants, refuges and asylum seekers.

About the lesson

I commenced my career in the community sector by completing a Masters in Social Work in India. After moving to Australia in 2007 I completed a Diploma in Community Welfare and began volunteering with Parramatta Young Christian Workers and later I was hired within the organisation as campaign coordinator, where I developed and ran projects for young people, migrants, asylum seekers and refugees. Following this I worked as a Community Settlement Services Coordinator for Christian Community Aid, allowing me to develop my skills in case work and developing settlement projects. I returned to Parramatta Young Christian Workers to take on the position of manager in 2011. In this position I manage other staff members and assist the management committee in implementing their strategic plan for the organisation. I have worked as the manager of Werrington community projects where I have lead the originations in initiating an amalgamation process with other similar size organizations along with other manager’s responsibilities. I have also worked with a disability origination between jobs as way to gain experience in the disability industry.
