About Jan
Sitting with a guitar in my lap is where I feel most at home. I have taught 328 students over the past 6 years since earning my Bachelor of Music from University of Canterbury.
My lessons cover everything from reading tabs and sheet music to mastering complex scales and modes. We explore how to balance lead guitar technicality with essential rhythm guitar strumming patterns.
Power chords and barre chords form the bedrock of our physical practice sessions. I also love helping players integrate music theory into their own songwriting. It is a slow process that feels rewarding.

You pick up your instrument and we immediately find a groove. That first moment of playing a new chord progression together sets the tone. We use my background to sharpen your lead guitar skills and theory knowledge. I keep the environment relaxed so you feel comfortable experimenting with different styles.
6 years of teaching means I know how to explain tough concepts simply. It is straightforward work. I enjoy watching you grow as a musician.
