About Leonard

I am a third-year Law student at the University of Aberdeen with a strong academic record and a deep commitment to education. For nearly two years, I have worked as a freelance German tutor, helping students of all levels develop their confidence and achieve their goals. During my school years, I often found the rigid, rote learning methods used in most classrooms ineffective and discouraging at times. It wasn’t until I developed my own dynamic and flexible approach to learning that I began to excel. That experience has shaped how I teach today: with an emphasis on understanding over memorisation, and on adapting each lesson to the individual needs and learning style of the student. My background in law has further sharpened my analytical thinking and attention to detail — qualities I bring to every lesson. As an editor of the Aberdeen Student Law Review and a two-time moot court champion, I understand the value of clear communication and structured thinking. Writing samples and excerpts of oral arguments are available on request. I am highly organised, reliable, and passionate about helping students succeed in a way that works for them. Whether you're studying for exams or simply looking to improve, my goal is to make learning effective, engaging, and tailored to your needs.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is rooted in adaptability. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method – every student learns differently, and I tailor my lessons to suit individual needs, learning styles, and goals. Rather than relying on rote memorisation, I focus on helping students truly understand the material through active learning techniques. This includes discussion, guided analysis, creative exercises, and methods that make retaining content feel natural and intuitive. A typical lesson lasts one hour, but I’m happy to offer longer sessions if requested. Lessons are always tailored to your specific goals – whether you're aiming for top grades in exams, building confidence in speaking and writing, or simply deepening your understanding of the English language.
