About Frankie
I’m a final-year Cambridge ASNC undergraduate specialising in the languages and philology of the early medieval world, receiving a First in both 1st and 2nd year Latin, as well as A* at A Level and a 9 at GCSE. I received A* at A Level and 9 at GCSE in Greek, and now use it as part of my degree to read theological and classical texts where needed.
I’m a patient, highly structured, and detail-oriented tutor who enjoys teaching Latin and Ancient Greek, and I believe these languages offer huge benefits for anyone interested in the humanities. I genuinely find grammar fun, and I aim to make it intuitive and accessible for my students.
I have experience tutoring both at school and at university: helping GCSE students who struggle with the basics, supporting A-level students with more complex language, and even assisting ab initio learners in my department — including an MPhil student who reported finding Latin significantly easier after working with me. I’m very knowledgeable about the structure and grammar of the languages I teach, and I’m always happy to explain concepts as many times as needed.
My teaching style combines clear explanation, methodical progression, and consistent encouragement. I push students to improve steadily while offering support whenever they need it. Although I’m a medievalist by training, I still read Classical Latin and Greek in my spare time, and I bring that breadth of linguistic experience into my lessons.
Lessons are online, usually 40–60 minutes, and tailored carefully to each student’s goals, confidence level, and preferred pace.
I’m very happy to teach students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to confident A-level students looking to refine their technique.
I am also happy to teach Medieval Irish and Old English, should anyone be interested.

I offer structured online lessons in Latin and Ancient Greek, tailored carefully to each student’s goals, confidence level, and exam requirements. My teaching focuses on clarity, steady progression, and building real understanding of grammar and translation technique.
For students preparing for GCSE or A-level exams, lessons can include:
Revising core grammar such as tenses, endings, and syntax
Strengthening unseen translation skills
Learning how to use advanced constructions effectively
Developing exam-focused strategies for achieving top grades
Support with GCSE Latin Literature, including set texts, commentary, and analysis
As a final-year Cambridge undergraduate specialising in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, with A-level Latin and Greek, and current study in Latin, Old English, Medieval Irish, and Medieval Welsh, I bring a strong philological background that helps students understand why the language works the way it does.
For students learning outside an exam context, I can provide:
Translation and reading practice
Grammar consolidation
Enrichment for those interested in historical linguistics or medieval languages
Lesson length varies depending on the student’s needs, but most sessions are 60 minutes, with shorter or longer options available.
I have experience teaching GCSE Latin Language & Literature and A-level Latin and Greek, and I adapt lesson structure to suit each learner’s pace and preferred style.
I am very happy to teach students of all levels and ages, from complete beginners to confident A-level students looking to refine their technique.

Frankie has been absolutely invaluable in helping me with Latin, answering any questions I've had with great depth, while keeping the explanations easily understandable. I cannot recommend him enough for anyone seeking support with the subject.
Frankie is incredibly knowledgeable and engaged in his field, and he is always able to contextualise and explain his knowledge from many different angles in academic discussions which really showcases his adaptability towards a variety of styles of learning. He is great at providing new insights and clarifications in a way that makes sense and feels supportive in building up understanding through a positive and learning-focused lens.
Frankie is my colleague in the Department of English & ASNC at Cambridge, and has been of immense help on many occasions.
His command of Latin and Greek is impeccable, and he has often given me support in topics ranging from etymologies, to ancient Greek dramatic conventions, to the impact of the Romans on the present day.
Through all of this, Frankie has been very kind and understanding, often answering questions with patience and an ability to communicate ideas in a relatable manner. Frankie's passion for the subject is self-evident, but does not overwhelm a novice learner.
Frankie is a fantastic student and I imagine he would be an equally fantastic tutor.View more recommendations
