About Jessie

I am a current language student who has worked as a volunteer tutor at various times over the last four years for primary and secondary school students. The vast majority of this experience has been as a 1-to-1 tutor, with a focus on literacy (lower secondary school) and English Literature (GCSE and A Level). I received an A* in both English Literature and English Language at GCSE and an A* in A Level English Literature. This was because of my strong passion for the subject, but also because of my revision techniques which I have worked on for years - techniques I now want to share with you. Secondary school can be tough. I'm here to support you in your studies and help you fulfil your potential.

About the lesson

I offer one-hour lessons (although this is flexible) in English Literature. In the past, I have tutored students aged 11 up to 17, and am happy to adapt to the needs of any student! For younger students, I typically focus on paired reading and confidence in reading aloud. Volunteering as a literacy tutor for two years, I found this to be the best way to support (rather than replace) and complement in-class learning. At GCSE and A Level, we will focus on the set text for your exam board. Typically, I lead students in a relaxed discussion-style lesson where we discuss key themes, characters, and context to help analysis. In the past, I have helped students with texts including The Scarlet Letter, Lord of the Flies, An Inspector Calls, and Othello. In addition, I also provide essay writing support and feedback.
