About Lauren

A tenacious, hard-working and empathetic person who believes in the power of life-long learning. It's never too late to learn something new! I'm a huge language enthusiast, dedicated to helping others realise the importance of cultural diversity and exchange. We not only improve our communication skills through learning another language but we gain a greater understanding of our own. Having spent years tutoring modern foreign languages, I have since worked as a Product Manager for a language learning app and now as a learning partner in the charity sector. I take great pleasure in helping empower others to realise their potential.

About the lesson

What I offer I typically offer 1 or 1.5 hour long sessions on the following: - French (up to A-level for pupils and C1 for adults) - Spanish (up to GCSE level for pupils and B2 for adults) - British English (for those looking to learn English) - English grammar How I can help I've studied Modern Foreign Languages (French/Spanish) for over 15 years and carried out a degree where I spent a year living in France. Whilst abroad, I taught English in a secondary school and had opportunity to run an after-school homework club which centred on the English language. My experiences in school proved just how difficult it is to engage students with languages so I experimented with a range of different techniques. After completing my university degree, I began training to become a secondary school language teacher where I was entrusted with designing and implementing effective lesson plans across a range of different age groups (from year 7 to year 10 GCSE). This was a very challenging period and I worked with many pupils who were not motivated to learn a second language. As a result, producing creative and innovative activities was essential to engaging pupils. A typical lesson Learning a language can provide a block for some, therefore, I always endeavour to maintain a relaxed atmosphere where students did not feel pressured. I adapt lessons depending on how the student finds the lesson. I like to make sessions fun and varied, focusing on the core language skills - speaking, reading, writing and listening. Happy to run an initial free 30 minute session to get to know one another and understand what you'd like to achieve.
