About Rita

I have been giving online History lessons for two years and have taught over a 100 students. I also have four years experience as an teaching assistant in the history discipline. As a result, I have helped numerous students achieve their required credits on the high school level and their required major/minor courses on the college level.

About the lesson

As an instructor of History, I have two major goals: teach students to think in a historicalcontext – to understand the impact and importance of historical events in our current society as well as the future; to be critical writers of historical topics - to undertake research, weigh evidence, identify primary and secondary resources, make clear, concise arguments on alternative points of view and draw compelling conclusions.

In lieu of the aforementioned goals, I believe a history instructor must provide students with a clear, detailed class syllabus to start, which is inclusive of detailed class learning objectives, assignments and sufficient historical texts, journals and online resources. I also encourage students to seek out their own historical references and to share ideas on how the class can best
meet their educational goals while increasing their historical knowledge base.

Moreover, in pursuit of the application of my two primary educational objectives, I strongly encourage open dialogue among students and myself. Specifically, in regard to our cultural commonalities and differences. By doing so, I believe this allows student’s the ability to delineate alternative perspectives and to debate how conflicting agendas within cultures and between different cultures impacts historical events on a local, national and global basis.
