About Aran

Hello! I'm a warm and friendly 26 year old born and raised in the UK. I have a diverse range of interests and experiences, mostly related to the humanities, the arts and social science.

Currently I am completing a Masters degree at King's College London, in the famous War Studies department. My particular focus is on conflict and geopolitics in South Asia, but I also have interests in terrorism and political philosophy.

In 2016 I graduated from the University of Leeds with a first class history degree. I specialised in 16th century French history, but along the way studied a range of topics from medieval European kingship to the decolonisation of the British Empire and Moa's China.

Professionally I have worked as an academic researcher, delivering training to the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office and briefly as a political reporter in India. Otherwise I have also worked in schools as a pastoral assistant and lead English language classes for asylum seekers and refugees.

About the lesson

Teaching must be tailored to your needs and interests. As such I would ask that our first session spent together is one where we can get to know one another and understand what you need from your tutor. I am happy to tutor up to and including undergraduate degree level.

There are two main ways in which I can help you; firstly, in how to approach some of the mechanics of academics in the UK (how to write a good essay, how to efficiently read etc.); secondly, in developing your understanding of the topic area you are interested in.

- Structuring an essay for the UK academic system
- How to effectively answer an academic essay question for UK universities
- Reviewing feedback and areas of improvement from previous pieces of marked work
- Developing an effective writing style
- How to easily understand arguments put forward in articles or books

- Enabling you to understand broader international and historical themes, related to you topic of interest
- Highlighting difference in historical debate
- Pointing you towards relevant resources (journal articles etc.)
- Reenforcing the key information you need to know to understand your topic or time period of interest with depth
