About Emily
I am a Kinesiology student studying at the University of Toronto. In high school, I participated as a homework helper to younger grades that needed help with math and science classes. Essentially, I re-taught lectures in both groups and private lessons. I received honours all four years of high school and a French certificate as I studied French for all four years. Currently, I working on my bachelor's degree and plan on moving on to Dental School.

The best way to learn material is to engage with it, to think about it, to use and apply it. I incorporate these ideas into my teaching methods by involving students in developing their understanding of the material, rather than presenting material and asking them to go away and think about it. To this end, I try not to lecture too much, and to use a number of techniques to draw students in. I think that the most useful technique here is to ask students to justify their answers, to ask them why they gave the answer they did to a question. This helps students to understand the foundations of their understanding of the subject. Everybody learns differently, and I fully expect each time I teach a course for it to be rather different. My typical class would start off with me asking the student what they do not understand and what they do not know. I would then teach over the whole lesson, further explain the struggle areas and ask the student to reiterate what has been taught. I would highlight the goal of the lesson, and the main take away point then provide thinking questions to get the student to start thinking application-wise. What makes me stand out among others is that I am very dedicated to students and their education. I work extremely hard to differentiate instruction to cater to all students learning. The classes are meant for elementary, middle, and high school students!
