About Chamendra
I’m originally from Sri Lanka, where rugby is more than just a sport — it’s a way of learning discipline, respect, resilience, and teamwork from a young age. I played rugby my entire life, representing one of the top school rugby programs in the country, followed by a brief stint in club rugby before moving to Perth, Australia. Rugby has played a huge role in shaping who I am today. It taught me how to work within a team, how to stay composed under pressure, and how to push through physical and mental limits — lessons that carry far beyond the field. Teaching rugby allows me to pass on not just skills and fitness, but also the values and mindset that the game builds in you. I’m currently a student at the University of Western Australia, studying Neuroscience, which has deepened my interest in how the body and mind perform, learn, and adapt under training. This helps me take a thoughtful, structured approach to coaching, especially when working with young athletes. I genuinely enjoy working with kids, teenagers, and beginners, whether you’re picking up a rugby ball for the first time, developing core skills, or looking to improve fitness and confidence. No matter your starting point, my goal is to support you, challenge you, and help you grow — as a player, an athlete, and a person. If you’re willing to learn and put in the effort, I’ll take care of the rest.

Personal approach to lessons
My coaching is centred around teaching the game of rugby properly, from the ground up, while passing on the values and spirit that make rugby such a special sport. I work with all levels, especially juniors and beginners, and my goal is simple: help you understand, enjoy, and grow within the game.
I’ve played rugby from junior level through to senior level for over 14 years, and I bring that experience into every session. Originally from Sri Lanka, where rugby is deeply rooted in discipline, respect, and brotherhood, I coach with a strong focus on the spirit of the game — teamwork, resilience, accountability, and pushing yourself beyond what you think you’re capable of.
Sessions aren’t just about passing and tackling. Depending on the player’s needs, I also focus heavily on conditioning, athletic development, and mental toughness, drawing from my strong background in high-intensity functional training. Whether the goal is improving fitness, building confidence, developing rugby-specific skills, or simply learning the game the right way, I adapt each session to the individual.
Rugby is a team sport, but every player develops individually. I take time to understand what you need, where you’re at, and what you want to improve — and from there, I take care of the rest. My approach is flexible, supportive, and challenging, always aimed at helping players become better athletes and better teammates, both on and off the field.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I’ve known him for years and can confidently say he would make an outstanding rugby and fitness coach. He has a deep understanding of the game, strong athletic experience, and a genuine passion for teaching others. What really stands out is how well he works with people — he’s patient, encouraging, and knows how to connect with students of all ages and skill levels. He’s especially good at motivating young athletes and helping them build confidence, discipline, and resilience, both on and off the field. Anyone training with him would be in very good hands.
I worked with him for two months now. He is very flexible and helped me a lot in achieving my fitness goals.
