About Murray
I am a journalist, with an MA (Distinction) from City University. I have work published in The Sunday Times and The Guardian.
For the last two years I have been teaching English in Vietnam, focusing on advanced speakers, improving their essays and critical thinking.
I have also tutored students online in Canada, helping them prepare for presentations, debates and exams.
Before that I worked as a full time reporter for a local UK newspaper.
I graduated from the University of Sheffield with First Class Honours in Politics and Philosophy.
I received 2A*s (Philosophy and History) and 1A at A Level (Politics) and 1B at As Level (Maths).

My teaching style is grounded in building a strong rapport with my students. I am a friendly and approachable presence, allowing students to feel comfortable opening up to me.
Once a student feels they can open up to a teacher, they are able to express ideas and lines of thought that have previously been locked away.
When it comes to critical analysis, I focus on the Socratic method; asking stimulating questions to prompt deep critical thought from my students.
I am able to guide students' essay-writing so that efficient planning and structure becomes second nature to them.
