About Oliver
I have been tutoring for four years ranging from GCSE and A-Level exams and coursework and prepping for Oxbridge and other University applications working on personal statements, interview prep and extra-curricular study sessions. I’ve worked with a variety of both international and domestic students and in different settings including classrooms and one-to-one sessions. I specialise in tutoring Law, History and English but I have worked with students taking Common Entrance as well.

When tutoring, I aim to engage students fully and push them to understand topics themselves and be able to debate and challenge ideas, rather than convey information in a prescriptive sense. In particular, I seek to draw on my experiences of supervisions at Cambridge to ensure that tutees are able to utilise tutoring topics in broader discussions and engagement with the subject as a whole rather than teach ideas in isolation from one another. I am able to adapt my approach to fit with individual student preferences and requirements, in order to ensure that students are fully at ease and able to learn in sessions and have extensive experience of working with international students who do not have English as a first language, and am able to adapt the teaching experience to ensure that language barriers do not disadvantage the tutee.
Most importantly however I want to make sure that time spent being tutored does not feel like an extension of school! Tutoring allows us to approach important subjects in a different and hopefully more fun sort of way and find out what makes a student's brain tick. I find that in a more relaxed atmosphere, we can work out the best way of accessing information and ensure that the learning experience is both enjoyable and academically rewarding.
