About Danny

I’ve been building for the web professionally since 2000 — back when the dot-com boom was still happening — and I’ve worked across both agency and in-house teams on real production systems for organisations including the BBC, The Guardian, Sky, Channel 4, Orange and Vodafone (plus government work via agencies).

Alongside shipping products, I’ve spent a big chunk of my career doing what I enjoy most: helping developers improve — mentoring juniors, supporting career switchers, and guiding people through the “stuck” moments that tutorials don’t solve.

I’m originally self-taught, so I understand the gaps that learners hit (and how frustrating they can be). In 2019 I formalised that foundation with a BSc in Computer Science, completing it alongside full-time work and graduating with First Class Honours (2023).

If you’re looking for someone calm, practical, and genuinely invested in your progress — someone who can explain why something works, not just what to type — I’d love to help.

About the lesson

My lessons are practical, structured, and tailored to you — whether you’re starting from scratch, building a portfolio, studying Computer Science, or working as a developer who wants to level up.

What a typical lesson looks like:

- Quick check-in & goal for the session (what you want to be able to do by the end)

- Hands-on coding together (pair-programming style, with you driving when possible)

- Debugging + best practice as we go (so you build confidence, not just code)

- A clear takeaway plan: small exercises and next steps you can actually complete

What I can help you with:

- Core web dev: HTML, CSS (including Tailwind/Sass), accessibility, responsive layout

- JavaScript & TypeScript: fundamentals → modern patterns, async, architecture, clean code

- Frameworks: React and Svelte (components, state, performance, real-world patterns)

- Tooling: Vite/Webpack, build tooling, project setup, code quality, Git workflows

- Debugging & performance: Chrome DevTools, profiling, React re-renders, “why is this slow?”

- Career support (if you want it): portfolio projects, code reviews, interview prep, mentorship

A note on AI tools:

AI can be useful — but it can also hide the fundamentals. I’ll show you how to use AI as a helper, while still learning to reason, debug, and build independently (the skills that actually make you employable and effective).
