About Megumi
Hi, I’m Megumi, a native Japanese speaker based in Auckland and a New Zealand-registered secondary school teacher. I have over 20 years of experience in education, including teaching English in Japan and working in schools in New Zealand.
I hold a Master’s degree in TESOL from the University of Edinburgh and a CELTA qualification. My experience teaching English helps me explain Japanese clearly in English, especially for beginners.
I’m patient and approachable, and I welcome questions. My aim is to help you understand Japanese step by step and feel confident using it.

My lessons are suitable for beginners and intermediate learners, including teenagers and adults. You can ask questions in English, and we will learn at a pace that suits you.
Depending on your goals, we can focus on everyday conversation, Japanese for travel, grammar, hiragana and katakana, or reading and writing.
Lessons combine clear explanations with practical activities, such as role-playing situations in shops, restaurants and everyday life. We will practise using what you learn, rather than only studying rules.
In our first lesson, we will discuss your goals, explore your current level and try some activities to plan your next steps.
